How do I back up my recipes?
Open Settings → Export backup. Skillet makes a single .zip file
with every recipe, category and photo, then opens your phone's share menu. Save it to Google
Drive, Files, iCloud Drive or email it to yourself.
The recipes inside are plain, readable text (JSON), so they're never locked into the app.
How do I move my recipes to a new phone?
- On the old phone: Settings → Export backup and save the file somewhere the new phone can reach (e.g. Google Drive).
- On the new phone: install Skillet, then Settings → Import backup and pick the file.
The same backup file works on Android and iPhone.
What's the difference between Merge and Replace?
Merge keeps the recipes already in Skillet and adds the ones from the backup (updating any that match). Replace clears Skillet first, then restores exactly what's in the backup. Use Replace when setting up a new phone.
Where are my photos kept?
In Skillet's private storage on your phone. When you add a photo, Skillet makes its own copy, so deleting the original from your gallery won't remove it from the recipe. Photos are included in backups.

How does scaling work?
Set how many a recipe serves (on the recipe page, or Serves in the editor), then use + and −. Every amount, including fractions like ½, is recalculated. Reset takes you back to the original.
Scaling needs each amount to be a single number (2, 1.5, 1/2 or 1 1/2). If you type a range like “4-5”, the editor offers Fix it, which uses the middle (4.5).
Can it say “pizzas” instead of “servings”?
Yes. In the editor, fill in Serving word with the plural (pizzas, burgers, patties). The recipe then reads “Makes 6 pizzas”, and “1 pizza” when you scale down to one. Leave it blank for “servings”.
How do I show which ingredients each step uses?
In the editor, tap Steps under an ingredient and tick the method steps that use it. On the recipe page, those steps get an Ingredients button that shows exactly what goes in, already scaled.
How do I keep a recipe at the top of the list?
Tap the star on the recipe card or recipe page. Starred recipes sit at the top of your library until you un-star them.
How do I share a recipe with someone?
Open the recipe and tap the share icon. Skillet makes a clean, phone-sized PDF, scaled to the servings you have selected, and opens your share menu.
Privacy
Does Skillet need an account or the internet?
No. There's no sign-up, and everything works offline. Skillet doesn't upload your recipes or photos anywhere. See the privacy policy.
How do I delete my data?
Delete individual recipes with the bin icon on the recipe page. Uninstalling Skillet removes everything it stored on your phone (backup files you exported yourself are kept wherever you saved them).
